Karwa Chauth starts 4.40pm today

Karwa Chauth is being celebrated today with much fervour in Faridabad. The Haryana government already announced that Friday would be observed as a public holiday for all women employees in the government on the occasion. All Hindu married women in this part of India and especially the Punjabi community everywhere had been waiting for this moment. This Vrat will start today 04.40 in the afternoon. Married women fast one whole day without food or water for the long life of their husbands. The ritual signifies extreme love and devotion to the husband, as evidenced by the wife's willingness to suffer for his well being.

It is celebrated on the chaturthi tithi after the full Moon in the month of kartik in the Hindu calendar.

Despite recession in financial market shopkeepers are doing brisk business. However some shopkeepers in Old Faridabad market said that customers are not coming in numbers they usually anticipate at this time of the year. Some experts says that this Deepawali will also be affected by low sentiment in the narket.

When and how this tradition started; there are several stories related. According to http://www.karwachauth.com/ a woman named Karva was deeply devoted to her husband. One day while bathing, he was caught by a crocodile. Karva came running and bound the crocodile with a cotton yarn. She then went to Yama, the Lord of the death, and requested him to send the offending crocodile to hell. When Yama refused, she threatened to curse him. Afraid of the power of a devoted wife, Yama readily accepted and sent the crocodile to Yamalok or hell, and blessed Karva's husband with long life.

Sachin is the highest run-getter now

Sachin Tendulkar has set yet another record to become the highest run-getter in the Test cricket. Tendulkar, 35, scored the 15 extra runs he needed to overtake Lara's aggregate of 11,953 on day one of the second Test against Australia in Mohali. Already the holder of a record 39 centuries in 152 Tests, Tendulkar hit the landmark runs off Peter Siddle.

Sachin's five greatest innings
But, India was reeling against the pace batteries of Australia especially by Mitchell Johnson.
India won the toss and elected to bat with Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag. Kumble made way for Mishra and Dhoni is the skipper for this test match against Australia at Mohali.

Faridabad on the threat map

Faridabad, the industrial city of Haryana adjoining the national capital Delhi, heaved a sigh of relief as yesterday passed peacefully amidst talk of a terror mail. City police has tough time maintaining the tight vigil in the wake of hoax mail received on Monday.

In case of emergency these toll-free numbers given by the administration can be used: 100, 1077 and 102 for medical assistance.

SSP Shrikant Jadhav addressed the people of Faridabad through local cable network and called for maintaining vigil, calm and also assured that police is capable of protecting people from any threat.

The office of the deputy commissioner on Monday received a postcard, dated October 1, with a forewarning that seven places will be bombarded on October 7. The sender claimed to be a member of the Indian Mujahidin.

A quick survey yesterday revealed that security is really stepped up. In sector 29 a small cultural gathering was organised by the Bengalis and police personnel were there maintaining the crowd in a manner which have not seen in the recent memory.

The seven places written in Hindi in the postcard were Old Faridabad Railway Station, B K Civil Hospital, NH-1 Market, Vaishnav Devi Temple, Fortis Escorts Hospital, Sector-12 SRS Mall and Shubham Tower.

This is the third time in quick succession when the threat calls/mails proved wrong. It is said that it may be the signal of a real threat. After serial blasts in Delhi almost all hoax generated in Faridabad and two persons already detained in connection with the calls made before the blast.
