Housing schemes for slum dwellers fail to draw occupants in Faridabad

Huda’s Ashiana housing scheme, in which Mandal was allotted a unit, is a case in point. More than 19 months after the project was completed, the 3,080 units have failed to attract even a single occupant.


Experts suggest that the government will be better served if it develops the slums, instead of pursuing expensive housing projects that make little economic sense for the urban poor, who earn less than Rs. 200 a day and have to support large families.

Delayed Projects In Delhi NCR

Many of them, launched in 2005-06 with assurances of possession by 2008-2009, are yet to be completed. Today, as many as 63 large residential projects in NCR (accounting for almost 40000 units) are delayed by over four years. Out of these, around 10 projects with 9000 units have been delayed by over six years. This includes projects wherein possession of a small percentage of units has been handed over, while most of the whole project remains incomplete.

Solar water heating systems in residential and government buildings has been made mandatory in Faridabad. Additional deputy commissioner, Faridabad, Anita Yadav, forwarded a letter to HUDA administrator, Faridabad, directing that solar water heating systems have been made mandatory for those buildings which house industries where hot water is needed.

Among other buildings where solar heating water system has been made mandatory are hospitals, nursing homes, hotels, motels and banquet halls, jail barracks, canteens, housing complexes set up by group housing societies/housing boards, all residential buildings built on a plot size of 500 square yards, educational institutes, tourism complexes, etc.

House tax to go down in Faridabad

Faridabad residents have a reason to cheer — the government has decided to bring down house tax. But the Municipal Corporation of Faridabad (MCF) is likely to implement the decision once the state government issues a notification in this connection. Officials from the civic body said as per the decision, about one lakh households will benefit from low house tax.

Slum dwellers allotted flats in Faridabad

The Hindustan Times 785 families applied for the flats named as Ashyana out of which 690 were allotted their houses. There are 3,080 flats out of which 1,040 flats are in Sector 62 whereas the rest 2,040 have come up in Sector 56 and 56 A in Faridabad.
